Volunteers of Cycling Academy in Vienna

Vienna is a place where bicycle culture has great impact on public transport. A bicycle-friendly european capital with nice places to see, especially if you choose to ride a bike.

The main topic of the third VOCA meeting in Vienna was media representation of bicycles and bicycle culture. The volunteers shared examples of best and worst practices when promoting bicycles. Most of it were based on the experience in local communities, in different EU countries.

During the first two days of the visit, workshops and presentations about bicycles and communication were held.

We also road on the bicycle lanes of Vienna ”with a little help form our austrian colleagues” CITYBIKE WIEN and made the tour of the city center.

You can watch a short video with Volunteers of Cycling Academy and the bicycle tour in Vienna:

One of the most amazing places we visited is Bike Kitchen, a club where people are in love with bicycles and bike repairing. It is also remarkable because it is an open space ( and non-hierarhical) with a workshop, a kitchen and a lounge.

In our way to the Kitchen, we met a nice fellow with an interesting bicycle:

A meeting of the organizations who participate at the VOCA project and the representatives of European Cyclists’ Federation took place in the last day of the programme in Vienna. We met a lot of interesting people who believe in and work for the future of bicycle in traffic and alternative mobility. They were really inspiring.

Last but not least:), th annual bicycle parade in Vienna took our breaths away. There were so many nice people with bicycles, coming from the traditional austrian culture of bicycle or subcultures, all ready for the big ride… A really good mixture of vibes, carried by bicycles and inspiring freedom in traffic:

ps. Very special thanks to our hosts in Vienna, Sonja and Alec from IGF
